A Backyard Wedding Turned Garden Party Magic

Jess and Matt’s wedding day was the perfect blend of intimate, joyful, and beautifully personal. Hosted in the backyard of Jess’s dad’s home in Thousand Oaks, the atmosphere was warm and heartfelt from the very start. With the ceremony nestled among views and greenery, their guests were welcomed into a space filled with love and sentiment.

After the couple said “I do,” guests enjoyed cocktail hour on the driveway—drinks in hand and the buzz of celebration in the air—while our team flipped the backyard into their stunning reception space. Dusty pink accents, soft linens, and charming goblets created an elegant yet inviting table setting, paired with gorgeous florals that truly brought the space to life.

Dinner was a highlight in itself: paella, cooked live on-site, filling the air with the most delicious aromas and giving guests a front-row view of the culinary magic. As the sun dipped and the evening cooled, the party kicked off—glow sticks in hand, dance floor shining, laughter everywhere. And just when everyone thought the night couldn’t get sweeter, Ojai Ice Cream rolled in to serve up the perfect end-of-night treat.

Jess and Matt’s wedding was proof that a backyard can transform into the most magical venue with the right vision, thoughtful details, and a whole lot of love.

Moments We’ll Treasure from this Family Home Wedding

Favorite Moments from the Lucky Penny Team “We loved the closeness of having everyone gather at the family home—it made the whole day feel warm, intimate, and so welcoming.”

🩷 A Couple’s Touch 🩷 One of our favorite personal touches was how Jess and Matt incorporated their energetic pup into the day—their custom pink cocktail napkins featured her portrait, making every drink feel extra special. Guests also loved the personalized selfie mirror (which stayed busy all night!) and the sweetest detail: ribbons with guest names tied to the pink water goblets, doubling as a seating assignment and a charming keepsake.

🎉 A Lucky Penny Moment With temperatures soaring that afternoon, we came prepared—personal handheld fans in hand. Just before the ceremony lineup, after first look and family photos, we cooled down the bride and groom and gave them a little boost of energy before their big moment. A small touch, but one that made all the difference on a hot summer day.

🌿 Pro Tip for Future Couples If your wedding is at a family home or non-traditional venue, plan a clear flow for moving guests between spaces. Cocktail hour can be a perfect buffer while your team flips the backyard into a reception area—keeping guests comfortable and entertained is key!

✨ Days like these show how transformative, seamless, and stress-free a wedding can feel when a planner is handling the moving pieces behind the scenes.
